I was right. More intense but a bit on the quieter side. What I love about this series is that I'm constantly wanting more and that so many of the characters show a different side of themselves. Here we have Ash making things all kinds of complicated and angsty. He's going to get his chance to tell his story and to really figure things out and I'm pretty stoked for that. What we get here is seeing his struggle. So much of what we've seen of him so far is bluster and while that hasn't changed, there's something going on behind the scenes that's affecting everyone.
Sloane and Dex are growing together and I'm appreciating where they're going more and more. Sloane is softening a bit and getting sexier and sappier. We're finally getting answers and far fewer secrets. He's finding himself too, and finding that so much with Dex is beyond what he's ever experienced before.
Dex is showing so much maturity, still a little doormat-ish, but as he's getting answers and getting caught up in all the crazy, we get to see so much of his strength and patience. He really is the best partner. There's not as much of his crazy shenanigans here, but it's not as if his character has dimmed. Things are just happening beyond what we've experienced with them before so they're making note of TPO (time, place, occasion) and I think it's a slightly welcome change.
Everyone is a bit of a drama queen in this book and not all of that is bad. I actually didn't mind it at all. There was action, steam, feels, and enough Dax to keep me coming back for more.

New York City’s streets are more dangerous than ever with the leaderless Order of Adrasteia and the Ikelos Coalition, a newly immerged Therian group, at war. Innocent civilians are caught in the crossfire and although the THIRDS round up more and more members of the Order in the hopes of keeping the volatile group from reorganizing, the members of the Coalition continue to escape and wreak havoc in the name of vigilante justice.
Worse yet, someone inside the THIRDS has been feeding the Coalition information. It’s up to Destructive Delta to draw out the mole and put an end to the war before anyone else gets hurt. But to get the job done, the team will have to work through the aftereffects of the Therian Youth Center bombing. A skirmish with Coalition members leads Agent Dexter J. Daley to a shocking discovery and suddenly it becomes clear that the random violence isn’t so random. There’s more going on than Dex and Sloane originally believed, and their fiery partnership is put to the test. As the case takes an explosive turn, Dex and Sloane are in danger of losing more than their relationship.
Action. Comedy. Romance. And that one weird guy.
