Sometimes there's the fate you think you can control and then there's Fate, the one that throws you for a loop so you end up where you were meant to be all along. Ted needs companionship more than any bear anyone has ever known. He resorts to pranks to have someone to talk to and it's getting him into some serious trouble. Supernatural Selection gives him some hope of both a companion and a help-meet. Quinn needs to escape his grandmother's machinations and hopes Supernatural Selection's selection will give him both the escape and a partner that won't end up like his former lover. But when spells and clerical mix-ups pair the extroverted bear shifter with the introverted incubus they just might find that sometimes Fate will do everything it can to give us what we truly need.
I found it difficult to connect with both Ted and Quinn in the beginning. But as the story progressed and we got to know them and see their interactions and reactions I was slowly won over and came to really love them. Ted's earnestness and childlike heart were the perfect safe place for Quinn's cautiousness and concern. Quinn's empathy and fierceness compensated for Ted's bumbling and gullibility. They each gave one another what they had been missing and looking for.
The shenanigans that ensued during their escape clause and remarriage attempts were ridiculous and humorous. I felt so bad for Zeke and can't wait to see if he gets his own forever match. The whole vibe of the story was much sweeter than I expected. I thought there would be a little more sinister elements or a lot more steamy moments but what we got instead was tenderness, a bit of personal angst, humor, and moments of brilliance. The intimate moments aren't to be discounted though; with intense passion thinly veiled by amusing reasons we got both steam and sweetness. There's a great cast here that's new as well as Alun and David from Cutie and the Beast that make a few important appearances. This was a really great spin-off and a fantastic start to its own series.
